WORK PERIOD 25 april – 27 may 2022

locationS: base camp: hooghouse

(spilsluizen 17, groningen) / trips to: paterswoldsemeer

This episode is building up toward the longest day. An episode where we immerse ourselves in nomadlife, digital healing, edible plants, canoeing, knitting and being together.

As a tribe of travelling colours, Joseph Marzolla, Splitter Splatter and Janneke Raaphorst set up KAMP GRUONINGA. With small tents for intimate encounters such as palm readings, healing gif sessions, one-on-one performances and a larger tent for workshops and being together.

The originally Germanic midsummer celebration, where according to ancient belief plants have magical powers is the perfect time to be in nature. Prepare for the summer solstice/finissage by participating in the workshops.

During the weekends there are workshops around wild harvesting, knitting, making costumes and bricks with textiles for the finissage.

The midsummer celebration on June 21 will be the closure of S05E01. With a parade full of costumes, we will depart from base camp for Lake Paterswoldsemeer. To be together and celebrate a new cycle after a time of lockdowns and restrictions.

The artists stay in cabins at Scandinavisch Dorp next to the lake, they worked from Moshpit of Creation and the exhibition takes place at Hooghouse wherefrom you go on trips to the Paterswoldsemeer.

LOCATION

During the weekends (May 28 - June 19) you will go on trips from Hooghouse (base camp in the city centre) to the lakeside to have workshops, (food)walks, boat rides, to make costumes and to participate in the midsummer rituals we will be organizing for the finissage on June 21st.

Paterswoldsemeer: The Paterswoldsemeer, one of the few swimming waters of the city of Groningen, is crowded for recreation in the summer months. The Hoornseplas runs into the Hoornsemeer. The Hoornsemeer again runs into the Paterswoldse meer. On the border between these two lakes are a dozen small islands of which some are inhabited. De Lange West', 'Drie Oost', 'De Zweerden', 'De Fokken', 'Slakkeneiland', 'Neerwolde', and 'Visserland', the names alone appeal to the imagination and seem to come straight out of a boys' book. The islands can only be reached by boat. Around the lake are many little communities with vacation houses with a rich history of taking care of the site.

Hooghouse: Hooghouse is a new place in Groningen for conversations, ideas, stories, inspiration, creation, meetings and connection. The website will be launched soon, until then please send an email for more information info@hooghouse.nl. Hooghouse is open to new ideas and concepts, be welcome! Spilsluizen 17, Groningen

THE ARTISTS

JOSEPH MARZOLLA (FR)

Nomad, walker, resolute and productive eclectic, Joseph Marzolla’s artistic work is  multidisciplinary and multimedia. Installations, performances, sculptures, videos,  music, paintings etc. He practices different disciplines according to the needs of his  projects and the exhibition contexts.

The coherence of his work lies much more in the extraordinary nature of the  adventures that he leads than in their formal resolutions. For several years, he  embarked on a nomadic life project around long-distance walking which has  become a signature both in his artistic work and his daily life.
